What is inheritance?

Inheritance, what is it? I wonder…

The definition of inheritance begins with “the act of inheriting property” and continues with “the reception of genetic qualities by transmission from parent to offspring”.  Five examples using the word inheritance and only one relates to genetic traits; the rest are about property. My guess is that 4 out of 5 people who are asked about inheritance would refer to inherited property rather than genetic traits.  In fact, many might say they received little to no inheritance from their parents – focusing only on money or property.

Yet, when we investigate well-being and wealth beyond numbers, inherited traits contribute more to positive well-being than tangible property.  Simply offered, our mental, emotional, physical and spiritual inheritance influences well-being most. Reconsider inheritance and what have you inherited. How has your life and well-being been influenced by your inheritance? I wonder…
